چکیده
A field experiment was conducted during 2006-2007 and 2007-2008 seasons at Herbal garden, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad, India to study the influence of exogenous application of CPPU and GA yield, 3 fruit quality characters and seedlessness in watermelon. The experiment consists of 12 treatments (CPPU-50 ppm (T ), CPPU-100 ppm (T2), CPPU-200 ppm (T3), GA -100 ppm(T ), GA -200 ppm(T ), CPPU 50 ppm + GA 1 3 4 3 5 3 100 ppm(T ), CPPU 50 ppm + GA 200 ppm (T ), CPPU 100 ppm + GA 100 ppm(T ), CPPU 100 ppm + GA 200 6 3 7 3 8 3 ppm(T ), CPPU 200 ppm + GA 100 ppm(T ), CPPU 200 ppm + GA 200 ppm(T ) and untreated control(T ). 9 3 10 3 11 12 The mean fruit set (47.83) was maximum in plants treated with CPPU 200 ppm + GA 100 ppm (T ). The mean 3 10 fruit weight (3.56 kg) was maximum in plants treated with CPPU 100 ppm + GA 100 ppm (T ). The mean 3 8 number of normal seeds (28.00) were minimum in plants treated with CPPU 200 ppm (T ). The mean total 3 soluble solids content (12.27) was maximum in plants treated with CPPU 200 ppm + GA 100 ppm (T ). 3 10 The total sugars content (11.87) was maximum in plants treated with CPPU 200 ppm + GA 100 ppm (T ). 3 10 Significant differences were not observed among the treatments with respect to lycopene content.

Postharvest Quality of Red-fleshed Watermelon Affected by Fruit Position in Vine
Effect of different fruit position on postharvest quality of F1 hybrid redfleshed watermelon Hi-U 16 was examined. In this study only one main vine was trained and maintained. The plants were allowed to set three fruits naturally at the first (8th - 11th nodes), second (13th - 16th nodes) and third (18th - 21th nodes) position. Fruits were harvested at 35 days after anthesis. Fruit weight, diam...

The effect of grafting and post-grafting temperature on the plant development of two watermelon cultivars at transplantation and on subsequent fruit quality was studied. Watermelon cv. Sugar Baby and Crimson Sweet were self-rooted or grafted onto rootstock RS 841 F1 (Cucurbita maxima × C. moschata) or bottlegourd [Lagenaria siceraria f. clavata] (year 1), plus L. siceraria f. pyrotheca (ye...
متن کاملInfluence of Gamma Irradiation on Seedless Citrus Production: Pollen Germination and Fruit Quality
Seedlessness is a desirable characteristic in citrus fruits sold for fresh consumption. Gamma irradiation is widely used to obtain seedless citrus fruits. Here, different clones of the self-incompatible parthenocarpic “Moncada” mandarin, obtained by gamma irradiation, were studied to assess seedlessness, pollen germination, fruit characteristics and quality attributes. Findings indicate that ir...
متن کاملComparative Transcriptome Analysis of Cultivated and Wild Watermelon during Fruit Development
Watermelon [Citrullus lanatus (Thunb.) Matsum. & Nakai] is an important vegetable crop world-wide. Watermelon fruit quality is a complex trait determined by various factors such as sugar content, flesh color and flesh texture. Fruit quality and developmental process of cultivated and wild watermelon are highly different. To systematically understand the molecular basis of these differences, we ...
متن کاملThe Influence of Rootstock Selection on Fruit Quality Attributes of Watermelon
Grafting watermelon (Citrullus lanatus) to control Fusarium wilt has been practiced in Europe, the Middle East, and the Far East for decades. Until recently, grafting watermelon has not been practiced in the United States due to labor costs and land availability. There is some disagreement in the literature as to the effects that grafting has on watermelon fruit quality. This study was designed...
